Experience The Traditional Foot Massage

Happy new year, everyone! I'm back again! I've been feeling so much guilt about not updating my blog due to some issues with my laptop, but I got it fixed now!

December was a wonderful month - I have so many interesting things to share with you guys, but as I'm lagging behind on my posts, I need to prioritize my "To Blog List".

Anyway, to get back on track, I've always loved foot massages but could not find the time to go frequently. However, three weeks ago, I had the chance to experience one of the most traditional foot reflexology massages at Wang Chinese Medical Clinic. The shop is located at People's Park Centre in Chinatown (directly opposite Chinatown Point).

Just some quick info about foot reflexology: It is a form of massage that focuses on the reflex points located on the foot to stimulate the body system. Foot reflexology is believed to have been practised for thousands of years in places such as India, China and Egypt.

Look at the chart below. Amazingly, all the vital parts of our body have a corresponding point on our feet!

According to the boss Mr Ho, the shop has been operating for about 5 years and the most experienced masseur here,Mr Goh has 15 years' experience in this trade. I was honoured to be served by him.

This is the massage area.

Waiting for the masseur!

I normally feel very tensed at the beginning when I go for foot reflexology because the usual diagnosis from the masseurs is always not very positive! They will always say that I lack sleep, suffer from dehydration or indigestion, have a sensitive nose, etc when they press on my feet's acu-points. I have always been amazed how accurately they can point out the symptoms that I'm suffering from just by massaging my feet. From my observation, it seems that when a particular acu-point hurts from the pressure they apply, it is linked to a problematic organ.

Look at the tensed expression on my face!

The masseur, Mr Goh, adopts a consultative approach and is extremely intuitive about the areas that are likely to be painful, even before he actually begins the massage. His predictions on the areas that would hurt were all spot-on.

According to Mr Goh, having frequent foot reflexology sessions not only helps to alleviate these health issues that I face, but also allows my feet to be able to better 'tolerate' the pain. For us ladies, since high heels are part of our lifestyle, orthopaedic problems may arise. Therefore, ladies, go for foot reflexology more often if you're always in high heels and do not want any related health issues to develop as a result of vanity!

Just kidding! It's simply to show that it's done while Mr Goh works on the other foot. :)

Depending on your individual pain threshold, an attentive masseur would continually keep checking with you to see if he or she is applying too much pressure and whether it is bearable for you. That is also how Mr Goh works. My advice is to just be honest. If it is really too painful, just let him know so that he can adjust the pressure strength.

To conclude, the overall experience was very positive. My feet felt much lighter and the aches have miraculously disappeared. It feels as if I can walk another 1,000 miles now! It would be better, if it includes a shoulder massage. For a 60-minute session, the cost is $45. They not only provide foot reflexology but other TCM services as well.
